Civil Guard agents belonging to the Fiscal and Border Company of Huelva have arrested a person in Huelva for a crime against public health, when they were trying to board the ferry to the Canary Islands carrying two kilos of heroin in their luggage.

The events occurred during the usual checks carried out on people and vehicles within the framework of fiscal safeguards in the port facilities, the Civil Guard reported in a statement.

During the passage of luggage through the X-ray inspection scanner, agents detected an anomalous density inside a backpack belonging to one of the passengers, which raised suspicions that it might be hiding some type of illicit merchandise.

Given the possibility of it being some type of narcotic substance, the intervention of the canine guide and his drug detection dog, belonging to the Cynological Service of the Huelva Command, was requested, who, after inspecting the luggage, the animal clearly indicated the presence of narcotics inside the backpack.

Upon meticulously examining the interior, the existence of a false bottom was discovered which concealed a package of 2.166 kilos with a brown powder, and upon performing the chemical test of narcotest, it yielded a positive result for heroin, with the luggage carrier being immediately arrested.

With this action, the Civil Guard has not only removed an important quantity of doses from the illicit market, but has also avoided the serious health and social impact that its distribution would have caused in the population.

The arrested person, along with the seized substance and the proceedings initiated, have been placed at the disposal of the Judicial Authority that is handling the case.
