The strong wind is the protagonist this week in Lanzarote. This storm has caused several incidents, in which firefighters had to act this Wednesday.
As reported by the Security and Emergency Consortium, the glass and part of the facade of the Hotel Barceló in Costa Teguise came off. Notified by the CECOES, the firefighters arrived at the place and verified that large aluminum panels had come off the curtain wall. An incident that caused the breakage of two large glass panels, with the added risks of height and strong gusts of wind.
At that moment, they proceeded to secure the panels with screws and slings and remove the glass, they explain.
Another notable accident was the fall of metal sheets at the Combustibles Canarios gas station in Uga. The firefighters, alerted by the CECOES, went to the gas station to fix the roof sheets that were loose, due to the strong wind. And all this, with the risk of falling on the public road.
Immediately afterwards, they removed one of them and fastened the rest with screws and washers, they affirm.
The third incident was the telephone cable that fell on Timbayba street, in San Bartolomé. Alerted by the Local Police, the firefighters arrived at the area to check the state of the road after the fall. They saw that the cable had come loose from its anchorage, thus preventing the passage of vehicles, they explain.
After the examination, they secured that cable to the support pole with several flanges, they clarify.

All this taking into account that Lanzarote has registered this Tuesday gusts of wind of up to 84 km/h at the airport. In addition, the island is on pre-alert for these gusts until this Thursday, May 11, when the yellow warning ends.
