Six firefighters from the Lanzarote Emergency Consortium will join the rescue efforts in the building that collapsed in Tenerife, where there are still seven people missing. Five of the Lanzarote firefighters traveled this Friday first thing in the morning and the sixth joined them there in Tenerife, because he was on vacation these days.

"It is our duty to come and lend a hand to our colleagues to find, hopefully alive, someone else," explained one of the firefighters, Juan Ramos, on Radio Lanzarote - Onda Cero. "We all come selflessly, in our free time, and even a colleague on his vacation days," he stressed, adding that these first hours are "vital" in case there are survivors.

Firefighters to TenerifeEmergency services have so far rescued the bodies of two people from the rubble of the apartment building that collapsed this Thursday in the Tenerife town of Los Cristianos. These are two women aged 45 and 77.

The collapse of the five-story building occurred at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday for reasons that are still unknown. Rescue services have worked throughout the night in search of possible victims, a task that has been supported by several canine units trained in this type of incident.
