The union section of the Association of Corps of the Administration of Penitentiary Institutions (ACAIP) has warned of the increase in drug seizures at the Tahíche prison. According to this union, the main method of introducing prohibited objects into the prison is through communications.
According to the press release issued this Friday, throughout this month of June, it has been found that the partners of two inmates have attempted to introduce hashish into the Penitentiary Center, through vis-à-vis communications, which are intimate communications that take place between inmates who do not leave on leave and their partners.
The alarms went off when the dogs of the canine unit of the Civil Guard and the Local Police of Tías, who regularly collaborate with the prison, marked the communicators and after the relevant searches, it was found that one was carrying 49 grams of hashish wrapped in a condom and inserted into the vagina and the other was carrying 246 grams of hashish distributed between the inside of her vagina and in the bra.
As a result of this, the two women were arrested and cases typified in the Penal Code were opened against them as a crime against public health in its form of trafficking substances that do not cause serious damage to health with the aggravating circumstance of committing a crime in a penitentiary establishment.
The General Secretariat of Penitentiary Institutions has approved that there be a permanent canine unit in the Lanzarote Penitentiary Center, which will undoubtedly make it considerably more difficult to introduce drugs into the prison. According to the same union, from January to September 2023, there were a total of eleven intoxications due to substances and several overdoses, including the death by overdose that occurred on February 3.
