Last Sunday afternoon, agents of the Local Police of Arrecife (GOAC) Citizen Attention Operative Group, arrested a driver who endangered not only his life, but also that of other users of the public road. The individual has been placed at the disposal of the court investigated for several crimes against road safety, including reckless driving and driving with a license withdrawn due to total loss of points.
The incident occurred at an intersection regulated by traffic lights, where a patrol vehicle was stopped. Suddenly and dangerously, a car that was driving in the opposite direction accessed the intersection skidding, invading the opposite lane and almost colliding with the police vehicle. The immediate reaction of the agents avoided a tragedy, but the driver, far from stopping, ignored police orders and fled through the streets of Arrecife at high speed and in the opposite direction, creating an imminent risk for other drivers and pedestrians.
The agents quickly deployed a search operation, managing to locate the vehicle in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood. At the same time, a neighbor alerted the Police that the same vehicle continued to perform extremely dangerous maneuvers.
When he was finally intercepted, the driver showed clear signs of being under the influence of toxic substances. The tests carried out confirmed an alcohol level of 0.99 mg/l in exhaled air, quadrupling the legal limit allowed. In addition, the analyses revealed the presence of cocaine and cannabis in his body, which would further aggravate the situation.
This individual was not only driving in alarmingly dangerous conditions, but also had his driving license withdrawn since 2021 due to the total loss of points. It was also verified that he already had a recent conviction for another similar crime in the course of this year.
The diligence and commitment of the agents to road safety in Arrecife allow reckless drivers like this to be intercepted and placed at the disposal of the court, guaranteeing the protection of all users of the public road.
