National Police agents arrested a 53-year-old man at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote with 260 capsules of cocaine, weighing a total of 3.075 kilos.
The events occurred on March 22, when this man, with no police record and originally from Guinea Bissau, and residing in Portugal, landed on the Island from Madrid. The National Police indicate that he was intercepted due to an "elusive and nervous" attitude he had before the police officers. For this reason, he was transferred to police premises for a more exhaustive control, where the drug was found.
After carrying out the pertinent procedures, the man was arrested as the alleged perpetrator of a crime against public health and placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, who ordered his immediate imprisonment.
With this one, there are six "mules" arrested by the National Police at the Lanzarote airport so far this year. According to the National Police, the total drug seized, in this first quarter, amounts to "more than 6 kilograms of cocaine and 580 grams of heroin."
The National Police indicate that they have activated a series of devices at the César Manrique airport in Lanzarote, with the mission of detecting this type of illicit activities.
