The Arrecife City Council has walled up this Tuesday morning a new house that was frequented by alleged "violent drug addicts" and that was used as a "drug den." This was reported by the council in a press release. The property, "which was in a state of unsanitary conditions," is located near Pedro Alcántara Square, in the capital of Lanzarote.
The Local Police of Arrecife, in response to alerts from residents, had this property under investigation. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, after learning of the police reports, ordered the sealing of this property by workers from Vías y Obras. In addition, the council has obtained authorization from the owner of this house to be able to seal the property.
In less than a week, Arrecife has closed the accesses of three properties used as 'drug dens'. Two of them, houses (Argana and the city center) and a garage in the Maneje neighborhood.
To these closures, are added the latest evictions decreed by the City Council in different areas of La Vega, Argana, La Destila, and Cienfuegos street, which after being walled up, its facade was cleaned up.
Yonathan de León, who this morning visited the sealing work in that area of the center of Arrecife, stated that he "wants the families of Arrecife to know that as mayor I will continue working to ensure that the city is safe, that young people can have more protected environments, free of drugs, and that residents can live without the violence of squatters or the dealings of some."
The mayor assures that "Arrecife is a safe capital and with security forces that assist the population."
