An operation led from Lanzarote ends with the arrest of eleven people from a drug trafficking network

An operation called "Coronado", directed by the Investigating Court Number 2 of Arrecife, has ended with the arrest of eleven people from a drug trafficking network that operated in the Canary Islands and Catalonia. The Civil Guard carried out several searches, including one in Puerto del Carmen on February 26, which ended with the arrest of A.D.P.S., a resident of the island and of Spanish nationality. In this search, the agents seized 4,690 euros and, as a result of this arrest, they managed to arrest another 10 people.

The organization, which was based in Spain and acquired synthetic drugs from Holland, in turn also supplied cocaine to a Swiss organization, according to the Civil Guard, which began this investigation in November 2012.

The agents verified how one of the cells of the organization was in charge of transporting synthetic drugs such as methamphetamine and speed hidden inside vehicles and caravans from Holland to Barcelona. They acquired them in that country from a Dutch organization.

The bulk of the criminal structure, based in Barcelona and the province, acquired cocaine from other drug traffickers, later delivering part of this substance to a member of the group residing in Lanzarote, who was in charge of distributing it on the island, according to the Civil Guard.

Collaboration with the police of Holland and Switzerland

In the same investigation, two people of Bosnian origin, residents in Switzerland, were arrested in Barcelona, who allegedly had traveled to that city to acquire and transfer 3 kilos of cocaine to their country. The drug was seized from them in the hotel where they were staying.

During the investigations, the Civil Guard and police from Holland and Switzerland, coordinated by Europol, maintained "frequent contacts to exchange information to completely dismantle the organization".

In the house searches carried out in Puerto del Carmen (Lanzarote) and in the Barcelona towns of Mediona, Sant Andreu de la Barca, Pallejà, Santa Margarida, Montbui, Gavà, Sant Boi, Cornellà and Ódena, the agents seized 5 kilos of synthetic drugs, 5 kilos of cocaine, 1,000 ecstasy pills, 90,000 euros in cash and a pistol with ammunition.

The operation, directed by the Investigating Court number 2 of Arrecife, has been carried out by agents of the Organized Crime Team (ECO) of the Central Operational Unit of the Civil Guard, based in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, and by the Judicial Police Unit of the same Corps in the area of Catalonia, supported in the exploitation phases by other Civil Guard Units of the provinces of action.
