The president of the Popular Party of Lanzarote, Astrid Pérez, assures that the decision of the Supreme Court, which has once again warned the Government of Pedro Sánchez for repeatedly failing to comply with its obligations to minor immigrants seeking asylum who are in the Canary Islands, “highlights the contempt and neglect of Sánchez and Torres towards our archipelago.”

“The Supreme Court makes it very clear to Sánchez: he must take charge of these minors, as is his responsibility. He cannot continue to look the other way while the Autonomous Community continues to care for those more than 1,000 minors and almost 5,000 more alone,” Pérez denounced.

The High Court has been demanding for 71 days that the central Executive urgently guarantee these young people access to the protection that corresponds to them as asylum seekers. “Far from acting, the Sánchez Government laughs at the people of the Canary Islands when it is capable of answering the Court that it cannot attend to these young people and shies away from its responsibility,” denounces the island president of the Popular Party.

“The PSOE is once again making fun of the Canary Islands and the dramatic situation we are going through in immigration matters,” said Astrid Pérez, who lamented that “the central Government is turning Spain into a State incapable of guaranteeing that the rights of minors who apply for asylum are respected and that the Supreme Court warns it of possible coercive measures if it continues to fail to comply with its obligations.”

Astrid Pérez recalled that the Canary Islands cannot continue alone in the face of this crisis, and has demanded an urgent response from the Sánchez Government, as required by law and as required by the Supreme Court.
