National Police agents in Arrecife have arrested a 27-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man, both with police records, as alleged perpetrators of crimes against traffic safety, theft, and vehicle robbery. They were located while driving in a vehicle owned by a rental car company that had not been returned.
The events unfolded when National Police agents observed a vehicle that they immediately recognized, as it had been reported stolen by its legitimate owner, a rental car company on the island.
The agents stopped the car and identified its two occupants, a woman and a man aged 27 and 30 respectively. Among their belongings, jewelry and personal items that did not belong to them were found, in addition to a knife and a large pocketknife.
Positive for cannabis, cocaine, and opiates
Police officers requested the presence of a patrol from the Arrecife Local Police, who performed a drug test on the driver, which came back positive for cannabis, cocaine, and opiates.
Police investigations also revealed that the identified individuals had committed a robbery hours earlier inside a tourist apartment in the town of Puerto del Carmen, where they stole jewelry and personal items worth 1,900 euros, as well as from a car that was parked outside the complex.
Therefore, both were arrested as alleged perpetrators of the events, and the man is also considered allegedly responsible for a crime against traffic safety. After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority.
The police intervention was carried out by agents from the Arrecife Police Station.
