Last Sunday, La Graciosa hosted a fashion show for the Fiestas del Carmen in the town. An event in which thirteen members of the La Graciosa Senior Citizens Association participated.
"It has been very exciting to see how they dare to be models for a day," summarized the Councilor for the Elderly of the Teguise City Council, Nereyda González, with her impressions after the celebration on the dock of the eighth island.
"With a firm step, a lot of poise and confidence," thirteen women put on party dresses from the local stores 'Eros' and 'Fantasía'. In addition, the models wore headdresses and hats from Amaira Cedrés, a young entrepreneur from Teguise, recognized with the 'Women who Inspire' award given to her by the City Council last March, coinciding with the events programmed in the municipality for 8M.
On this occasion, the participants in this challenge, among whom was the former councilor of La Graciosa, Alicia Páez, experienced a "very satisfactory and stimulating" experience, as they were highly applauded by the audience.
"We must empower women in their senior years, because today's older women are dynamic and participatory. That is why we are committed to combining workshops demanded by this group with novel and refreshing proposals that give them an extra boost of enthusiasm," explained González, who has co-organized the event.

The event concluded with all the participants dressed in the typical costume of La Graciosa in homage to the strength and effort that the women of the island have demonstrated, generation after generation.
Coordination failure
For his part, the Councilor for Festivities of the Teguise City Council, Javier Díaz, wants to apologize to the residents of La Graciosa, "because a coordination problem with the company that was supposed to transport the cannon for the foam party last Sunday has prevented it from arriving on time."
Díaz has thanked Líneas Romero for their collaboration "in the face of this mishap, as they have acted with their hoses so that the event was not canceled." In this sense, the councilor will anticipate in an upcoming meeting with the residents to evaluate "how the Carmen festivities have developed", since "the lack of a festival committee obliges the City Council to make an extra effort".
"We want to capture the opinions of the residents about the successes and failures that may have been committed," adds Díaz. Finally, the Councilor for Festivities also announces that the foam party, as it was planned, "will be moved to International Youth Day, next Saturday, August 12."
