The Traditional Dance School of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera of Tahíche will be in charge of representing Lanzarote in the well-known folklore festival of Teror, in which groups from the seven islands gather to honor the Virgen del Pino this Friday, September 6, as well as in the popular pilgrimage on Saturday.

Together with the El Lagar de Teguise band, the children of this children's formation will put the Lanzarote accent on this important folk meeting of the patron saint festivities of Gran Canaria.

The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has pointed out that this special representation of Lanzarote is "a pride for Teguise" and has congratulated "the dancers for their work", while thanking "the initiative of the teaching team of the center for betting on such an important and beautiful project and, above all, the monitors and families for their effort and commitment to traditions."

An educational project of the center since the 2010/11 academic year

Composed of 28 members between 7 and 14 years old, the Traditional Dance School of the CEIP César Manrique Cabrera of Tahíche is directed by Violeta Santos and was born during the 2010/11 academic year, with the aim of disseminating and transmitting the cultural, social and ethnographic heritage of the Canary Islands, as well as its traditional folklore, considering this aspect as a fundamental axis in the educational project of the center.

They have a varied repertoire that includes dances from all the islands, and especially those from Lanzarote. They also learn games, rhymes, among other traditional initiatives, as a complement to their training.

Every year they organize a meeting in the assembly hall of the educational center to show a tribute to traditions. They have also performed in numerous towns on the island of Lanzarote, such as in the festivals of Tabayesco, Haría, Teseguite, Tahiche (Festival of the Guagime folk group).

Outside of Lanzarote they have represented this island in the "Menuda Parranda" Festival, organized by the "Escuela de Folklore de Pájara" (Fuerteventura), in El Hierro, in the festival of the "Escuela de Folklore Tejeguatito", or in the "Children's Music and Dance Festival of the Canary Islands", organized by the Government of the Canary Islands in San Mateo (Gran Canaria). In addition, the students of the school have taught traditional dance workshops on the island of La Graciosa and in the Villa de Teguise.
