The International Museum of Contemporary Art (MIAC) Castillo de San José in Lanzarote hosted on Saturday night the first exhibition of Yurena Rodríguez, Miss Spain 2008 and first finalist in Miss Universe 2013. You can enjoy her work until November 2nd.

The exhibition explores the sea, femininity and mutual respect between the environment and the human being. A symbiosis that Patricia Yurena reflects in this collection composed of thirteen works where digital painting and an unpublished trilogy of watercolors are combined, innovation with tradition.

Among native fish from the Canary Islands, the artist portrays the body of the woman in agreement with the marine environment, a place of refuge and reconnection with herself, as Rodríguez narrates. Each of her pieces is defined as a testimony to freedom, reflecting in them from the Patricia Yurena girl who splashed in her native island, to the dance with the sharks of Madrid when at the age of 17 she moved to the capital.

The opening of the exhibition was attended by Ángel Vázquez, CEO of the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers in Lanzarote; Raúl Sánchez anthropologist and Ana Quintana, CEO of Azul Zero, who recognized Patricia's courage in addressing issues such as sisterhood and the visibility of diverse bodies. In addition, Rodríguez's friends, family and her little Gara, "her best creation" in the words of Patricia Yurena, did not miss the event.

The Tenerife native thus demonstrates the way in which mules take a back seat to give priority to brushes and watercolors. Rodríguez exhibits after having completed her training at the School of Art of Madrid (ESDIP), with a work full of politics and female empowerment, as Dr. Raúl Sánchez Molina, anthropologist, visiting the Department of Anthropology of The Catholic University of America in Washington and in charge of opening the exhibition, says: "Art is a system of action aimed at changing the world and Patricia is aware of what she is claiming, a woman who paints a woman, without babies, without anything, only her body."

The trilogy of watercolors that Rodriguez presents exclusively within the framework of 'Blue: the sea and the woman in perspective' demonstrates the commitment of the Tenerife native with the visibility of the diversity of bodies and sisterhood among women. Within a world as superficial as that of beauty pageants and fashion, the Tenerife native has known how to escape and maintain her voice and clear convictions, she did it when she came out of the closet in 2014 and she does it again in this work that is decreed as a declaration of intentions.

With 'Blue: the sea and the woman in perspective', Rodríguez not only presents her work, but also raises a conversation about the role of women in contemporary society and their relationship with nature. The exhibition thus becomes a space for reflection and dialogue on female identity in a context that mixes artistic tradition with innovation, highlighting the ability of art to inspire and generate change.

This artistic debut represents a new chapter in the life of Rodríguez, where her passion for art becomes an extension of her identity, reaffirming her commitment to social and environmental causes. With each brushstroke, Patricia Yurena Rodríguez invites viewers to immerse themselves in a world where the sea and women coexist in perfect harmony, inspiring others to find their own voice in the vast ocean of creativity.
