The Aceró concert hall in Tahíche hosted the concert by Blas Sánchez "A Canary Islander in Paris under the snow" last Saturday night.
This space was created with the aim of accommodating early music with instruments made by the Lanzarote luthier Paco Dorta such as theorbos, baroque guitars, Renaissance and Baroque lutes. On this occasion, it opened its doors to welcome one of the greats of music born in Ingenio, Gran Canaria, who at 88 years old continues to compose, perform in concerts and give guitar lessons in his "House Museum", located in his hometown.
The audience that filled the hall enjoyed a unique concert that began with the performance of the Guitar Quartet of the Municipal School of Teguise formed by Orlando Morales, Manuel Peraza, Marcial Armas and Luz María Duque who were coordinated by the professor José Luis González. The Quartet performed two pieces by F. Moreno Torroba entitled "La Siega y Amanecer", one of the guitars being made by the luthier Paco Dorta.
Next, Blas Sánchez took over, surprising everyone present by offering a concert where each of the pieces he performed had been composed by him. Blas not only played his guitar to publicize his work, but also became an encyclopedia, recounting "how Blasito", that child born in Ingenio, Gran Canaria, at just 17 years old, culminates his violin career in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which he revalidates in Tenerife with the highest grades, becoming part of the first violins of the National Orchestra of Spain directed by Ataulfo Argenta, and due to political problems in 1959 he arrives in Paris. Fortunately he returned and was named Favorite Son of Gran Canaria in 2007.
Blas Sánchez performed compositions such as Dany, La Ninfa, Nuit, Entre mar y cielo and La muñequita de trapo among others. The folklorist Fefo García, a great friend, put voice to some folías.
After the concert, Blas continued sharing experiences with the audience.
