The Tenique Cultural association, in collaboration with the Culture area of the Arrecife City Council, is promoting another year of a unique experience of preserving the island's visual memory: the public residency of the audiovisual artist Salvi Vivancos in Lanzarote, dedicated to the open digitization of family archives and domestic cinema.
During his stay, between May 7 and 14, Vivancos invites the entire population to come and learn about the process live, talk about the history of their films and, if they wish, bring their own files to be digitized free of charge.
For the first time, the project Destiladera. Lanzarote Revealed incorporates, in addition to 16mm and Super 8 films, the digitization of VHS tapes, making it easier for many more families to preserve their audiovisual memories and add them to the collective memory of the island. Vivancos' residency, one of the leading experts in Spain in the recovery and resignification of film archives, is an exceptional opportunity for citizens to actively participate in the conservation of their visual heritage.
In addition, this space will be transformed into a small exhibition: during those seven days you can see digitized frames in previous editions of the project, as well as cameras, projectors and other recording materials used in Lanzarote in the 70s.
The Councilor for Culture, Abigail González, has stated that "This project is a tool to connect generations, neighborhoods and families through shared memory. From the Arrecife City Council we are very proud to support initiatives that, like this one, dignify daily history and make it available to all citizens."
Children's workshop: cinema from the inside
As a complement to this community experience, Salvi Vivancos will give the children's workshop "Destiladera chinija: discovering cinema" in the Music kiosk of Arrecife, with two sessions on Saturday 10 and Sunday 11 and free access by prior registration. The activity will allow girls and boys from 6 to 12 years old to explore, in a practical and creative way, the origins and secrets of cinema, experimenting with 16mm film, transparencies and animation techniques.
An initiative to share, preserve and celebrate the audiovisual memory of Lanzarote
This project, which has the collaboration of the culture area of the Arrecife City Council, is an open invitation to the community: Tenique Cultural encourages all interested people to come, learn, participate and contribute with their family archives to the construction of a great insular visual story.
