The residents of the municipality of San Bartolomé celebrated the festival of their Patron Saint 'San Bartolomé' in style last Wednesday. As tradition dictates, from the early hours of the morning the earliest risers arrived at the church wearing their best clothes.
On the main day of the patron saint festivities, a large representation of civil and military authorities also traveled, who were received with full honors by the host of the municipality, Isidro Pérez. The Eucharist scheduled for twelve noon was presided over by Carlos María Marrero Moreno, parish priest of several parishes in the southern cone of the city of Las Palmas and professor at the Higher Institute of Theology of the Canary Islands, concelebrated together with the parish priest of San Bartolomé, Francisco José García. Also counting with the presence of Rafael Tejera, parish priest of Tiagua, Yonathan Almeida, parish priest of Yaiza, Juan Carlos Medina, parish priest of San Ginés, Episcopal Vicar of Fuerteventura, La Graciosa and Lanzarote, Deacon Alejandro Carmona and two young seminarians. In addition, the songs for the celebration were enlivened by the parishioners.
Once the Eucharist was finished, the procession with the image of San Bartolomé began, headed by the 'San Bartolomé Municipal Music Band', directed by Professor Kenti Mauri. Together with the image of San Bartolomé, the celebrating priests, civil and military authorities and the parishioners toured the main streets of the town.
Meanwhile, on the return of the processional route, the 'Music Band' performed a processional march in the square next to the church, which was greatly applauded by all those present. Immediately afterwards, the image of the Patron Saint made its entrance into the church, thus ending the 'Great Day of San Bartolomé'.
