The Executive of Nueva Canarias-Canarian Bloc (NC-BC) has unanimously decided to restructure the island leadership in Lanzarote and La Graciosa. Yoné Caraballo has been elected as the new island president of the Canarian party after a consensual decision approved by the members of both political parties.
Alongside Caraballo, the current island councilor Daisy Villalba will be occupying the first vice-presidency, and the councilor of Haría, Marcos Lemes, will be in the second vice-presidency.
In addition, this island structure will be composed of 11 island secretariats that will be announced in the coming weeks. Each secretariat will have an island secretary in charge of organizing, directing, and representing the organization in the assigned area.
“This island executive will have three challenges. The first is to consolidate the NC-BC brand in the municipalities where we have representation; the second is to have it in those where we have not succeeded; and the third is Arrecife”, commented the new island president Yoné Caraballo.
According to Caraballo, “the consolidation of the Canarian project in Lanzarote involves having a strong local structure and committee in the capital. For this, we are already working on the coordination of a local committee that combines the values of the politics of care that we have been working on in recent years, the renewal of political leaderships, and the essence of being from Arrecife”.
Another task entrusted to the new executive is to strengthen the organization at the organic level with new supporters, in a process of opening and dynamization.
“We need a dynamic party that moves to the rhythm of the citizens. We do not want to be a party for use, endogamous and closed, but a movement party that is constantly testing and stepping on the street”, argues Caraballo.
Similarly, the new president has indicated the commitment of this new island executive to address the challenges that remain pending in Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
“The adaptation and mitigation to climate change; the demographic challenge; the water crisis; housing; social justice; health or food sovereignty are issues that NC-BC in Lanzarote will continue to incorporate into the political agenda. We will not shy away from debating the real problems of Lanzarote society and proposing our island-home model”, explains the island president.
With everything, in this month of November the components of this executive called to “consolidate the NC-BC project in Lanzarote” will be announced.
