The Society of Culture, Recreation and Sports Torrelavega' inaugurated this Thursday night the exhibition 'Encounter with César Manrique', an event that took place around 8:00 p.m. and celebrated on the occasion of its 75th anniversary.
An exhibition in which the visitor will find the "clear reflection" of the work carried out by César Manrique, such as his original paintings in paintings, Cosmos flags, laminates, collection of ceramics, book publications, photographs, videos, and much more.
During the event, the president of the Torrelavega Society, Antonio Ramos, and his board of directors were "very satisfied" with the attendance of the public that filled the permitted capacity. The event began with welcome words from the president, a great connoisseur and defender of the legacy of 'César Manrique', working with him for many years during the creation and maintenance of the Art and Culture Centers of Lanzarote.
Ramos, with a "brief speech," remarked that "César's work must be taken care of if we want Lanzarote to continue being a different reference in the world." Thus reminding those present that "César was a founding director of Torrelavega and designed the logo" that they proudly display on their flag and social material. In addition, he thanked the "presence of the public" for responding to the invitation of the 'Torrelavega Society' to the authorities representing different institutions.
Once the president's greeting was over, it was the turn of the president of the César Manrique Foundation, José Juan Ramírez. From the first moment that the Society informed him of the exhibition project, he "put himself at its service to help in everything they needed." Ramírez congratulated Torrelavega for the initiative so that César's work and message continue to be "present" in the new generations and that the harmony between art and nature that Manrique sought "does not fall into oblivion."
After the two speeches, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, Jacobo Medina, and Migdalia Machín spoke, in addition to Oswaldo Betancort, who was in charge of closing the interventions section. All agreed to congratulate Torrelavega for the "exhibition and the 75th anniversary," remarking that we must "follow the guidelines set by César Manrique 'Less quantity and More quality', so that Lanzarote continues to be the canvas where the artist left a large part of his mark."
"May Lanzarote continue to be the canvas where the artist left a large part of his mark"
The event ended with the performance of the musical group 'Bohemia Lanzarote', directed by Juanma Padrón, offering a "wide repertoire" interpreting different musical genres and fusing them, giving them a "very current fresh air" to which the public responded with applause.
The attendees at the inauguration "were surprised as soon as they arrived" with the initiative of the management of the 'Torrelavega Society', with the special collaboration of the company Cabrera Medina, which had kindly lent them for the occasion the two car models that 'César Manrique' had designed. In addition, taking advantage of the occasion, many took photos with them.
