The Cabildo of Lanzarote held an institutional event this Wednesday in commemoration of Canary Islands Day, which will take place on May 30. The celebration took place in Jameos del Agua before hundreds of spectators and with the presence of the island's president, María Dolores Corujo.
Also, to liven up and put the island rhythm to the evening, the artist Germán López offered the attendees a timple concert, an instrument originating from the Canary Islands, under the title 'Alma'.
The president thanked the public for their presence, as well as the performance of Germán López, and emphasized "the need as a people to celebrate Canary Islands Day, to transmit the values and traditions of the Islands to the youngest population and to organize events of this level to demonstrate the respect and commitment of the institutions to the conservation of the history and heritage of the eight islands."
"This May 31, we will once again show from the Cabildo and from the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa the spirit of Canarian identity and the desire of everyone to keep our identity and union alive as a population," Dolores Corujo remarked.
Germán López is one of the timple performers who, since his professional beginnings, has been committed to the sound possibilities of the instrument, in a clear commitment to dialogue and fusion with other cultures and styles.
