With great enthusiasm and hard work, the great family of the Malpaís de la Corona Folklore Group of Haría celebrated the 'XXI festival' last Friday night, in a unique place in the very heart of Haría, the square, witness to so many social and cultural events.
As every year, the management of Malpaís de la Corona chooses a theme that for this occasion was "Where there is trust, there is credit", a phrase very common in the towns very related to the small shops also popularly called as "Oil and Vinegar Shops". The expression "Oil and Vinegar" was the official name given to certain small businesses since the 19th century, for the purpose of their classification in the payment of taxes.
The festival began with a small representation by the members of the group staging when the neighbors went shopping and at some moments, more than buying, they formed the gatherings where all kinds of comments were styled around the rumors that went back and forth through the town of some neighbors.
Immediately afterwards, the stage was completely filled with the members of the Malpaís de la Corona Folklore Group, more than 40 members distributed in the bodies of touch and dance interpreting the most representative of the folklore of Lanzarote. They began with an isa with lyrics by the member Rita Méndez related to the theme of the festival, continuing with folías, seguidillas, isa de los palos and ending with a malagueña. Once again, Malpaís de la Corona received as a prize the loudest applause of the night.
Next, it was the turn for the Guantejina Folklore Group that comes from San Cristóbal de La Laguna in Tenerife. This group was created in 1985 by a group of friends who shared a common passion, the music, singing, dancing and traditions of the Canarian people. Guantejina chose for its performance the most representative of the Tenerife folklore. Its 40 members gave everything on stage where the dedication and work carried out was recognized by the public who rewarded them with their applause.
In third place, the performance of the Parranda Bentahod of the Villa de la Orotava in Tenerife took place. It was formed in 2000, the result of the enthusiasm of a group of friends who decided to meet to keep alive the festive spirit of traditional Canarian music, as well as other popular genres of the Hispanic world. Its 27 members gave everything and with great animation they performed songs with Canarian roots, also winking at Latin America and also, had the complicity of the public that very animated chanted clapping. The festival was presided over by "D. Facundo", waiting for this year to be pardoned.
The festival came to an end with the emotional words of thanks from the president of the Malpaís de la Corona Association, Luz María Pérez, thanks that she extended to the institutions, to the two cultural families who came from Tenerife, Guantejina and Bentahod, to her colleagues from Malpaís for the great work carried out and especially to the public who once again responded to the call, surrounding her with their presence and applause.
