La Villa de Teguise and the island of La Graciosa already have a date for their festivities in honor of the Virgen del Carmen. With this purpose, La Villa de Teguise will become the epicenter of dynamization and entertainment from July 5 to 22 with theater, workshops, championships of envite and bola, a popular barbecue, an exhibition of classic motorcycles and cars, the family show 'The Watchmaker of Dreams' or with a Canarian prey encounter, among other surprises.

As for the musical performances, we highlight the folk group 'Acatife', a Fado concert and the proposal 'Teguise live' where different musical groups will participate on July 8 from 12.30 to 18.30 hours in the Plaza de la Mareta. In addition, the 'Night of Humor' has been organized, led by Kike Pérez and Aarón Gómez on July 13 at 20.30 hours in the Municipal Tent of Teguise. Likewise, scenic space and prominence has been given to local groups: the theater group 'Manuela y Esperanza Spínola' will perform on the 16th with the play 'Los Herederos' and the 'Coral Polifónica' of La Villa de Teguise will do so on July 8 in the Church of Guadalupe.

As usual, the solemn religious function and subsequent procession with the venerated image of Nuestra Señora del Carmen through the main streets of the historic center, will take place on July 16 from 12.00 hours. This year the proclamation, which will take place this Thursday at 20.30 hours in the Convent of Santo Domingo, will be given by the neighbor of Teguise, Carmelina García Barrios and will be enlivened by the Kanarii group.

Maritime procession

For its part, the island of La Graciosa will begin to celebrate Carmen from July 6, with a program of festivities full of music, games and sports, but also with the celebration of one of the most important maritime processions in the Canary Islands with a floral offering in memory of all those who died at sea and with the blessing of the image of the Virgin on land. In this 2023 the proclamation will be given by the Fishermen's Association of La Graciosa on July 9 at 21 hours in the square of the dock.

Another highlight is the celebration of the Paco Perera (Tájara) concert, framed within the 32nd edition of Canarias Jazz & Más. It will take place on July 21 at 20.30 hours on the dock of La Graciosa.

Special mention deserves all the residents of La Graciosa who "have turned the eighth island into a festive showcase of good coexistence and our cultural heritage", in the words of the mayoress of Teguise, Olivia Duque.

Both Duque and the Councilor for Festivities, Javier Díaz, agree in pointing out that "these festivities are a call to participation and to continue building community, going out to the streets to get to know each other better and enjoy our common values and traditions".

Both agreed to appeal to "a serene and responsible enjoyment", based on civic behavior, "because we must all add and not subtract". Likewise, they thanked the commitment of the members of the Festival Committee, the municipal staff, the merchants and hoteliers, and the cultural and sports entities, "for helping us to feel proud of being from Teguise and creating an inclusive atmosphere to which residents and tourists are invited".
