The Arrecife City Council is organizing a new event this weekend to boost activity in the neighborhoods. The square next to the church and the San Francisco Javier Cultural Center will host Barrios de Parranda this Saturday, a proposal created by the Department of Events.
The city's mayor, Yonathan de León, along with the Councilor for Events, Óscar López, have promoted this revitalization plan to "bring leisure to the interior of the Arrecife neighborhoods, where nearly 80% of the capital's population resides." Barrios de Parranda began in the days leading up to the celebration of Canary Islands Week, with several itinerant performances visiting all the city's neighborhoods.
Now, following the itinerant programming, the square next to the San Francisco Javier Cultural Center, a few steps from the Las Maretas Institute, will host performances by the groups Son de Mar and Tebete this Saturday the 15th, between 8:00 PM and 11:00 PM. The mayor reminds that the City Council has launched a revitalizing proposal that aims, in addition to revitalizing the neighborhoods, to recover the squares as places of coexistence and neighborhood gatherings enlivened with performances by local music groups.
Óscar López, as the head of the Department of Events, together with his Area team, has organized six weekend performances by Canarian musical groups, who are originally from Lanzarote. Many of these groups have performed in the successful stalls that the City Council has rescued for its patron saint festivities, with performances in La Recova.
Barrios de Parranda kicked off on May 18th in the Altavista neighborhood, where the Pa'l Porrón and Tebete groups performed, and will now arrive in the San Francisco Javier neighborhood, which has seen a major modernization of its road network in recent months, with plans launched directly by the Department of Public Works, also directly managed by Mayor Yonathan de León.
The Department of Events has planned for these musical performances to continue in other neighborhoods of the city in the coming weeks. This first edition is part of the events for the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife.
