The Provincial Court of Las Palmas has rejected a new attempt by the defendant in the attack on the young Sicilian Salvatore Sinagra to leave provisional prison. This decision, made last week, adds to that of the Investigating Court, which rejected in the first instance to release P.M.R.R pending the trial.
According to La Voz, the Chamber has made this decision taking into account the defendant's background due to the risk of re-offending, the seriousness of the crime and the risk of flight.
P.M.R.R. was arrested on February 1 at 11:40 p.m. in the Argana neighborhood for a crime of injury. The accused has several criminal records and is convicted of the attack on an elderly man two years ago on the island.
The accused, who is Canarian and a resident of Lanzarote, already tried to obtain provisional release after Salvatore Sinagra's family reported on social media that the victim had woken up from an induced coma, after 16 days struggling between life and death due to a traumatic brain injury. After that, Sinagra spent some time in Intensive Care and was finally discharged from hospital.
Since then, the Sicilian has left with his family to the island of Favigna, where he was born. For the moment, the crimes the accused faces will depend on the consequences suffered by Sinagra.
