A total of 18 students from Lanzarote, La Graciosa, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, El Hierro, already have access to a training program of 250 hours to become an entrepreneurship agent for marine tourism and fishing tourism.

The initiative, of regional scope, has been promoted by the Ministry of Tourism of the Canary Islands, through Hoteles Escuela de Canarias (Hecansa) and includes contents of online marketing; design and promotion of websites; development and management of business plans for microenterprises, intervention in the community, marine tourism and fishing tourism.

This project is the first milestone within the Circular and Blue Economy program of Hecansa, which arose within the Strategy of Blue Economy and Circular Economy 2021-2030 of the Government of the Canary Islands. The objective is to "maximize the potential of activities related to the marine and maritime sectors, with the purpose of achieving sustainable growth from the opportunities of the ocean and the coast".

Collaboration with fishing guilds

This training arises from the needs identified in the fishing sector to improve the insertion opportunities of workers in these new niches focused on tourism, so that they can collaborate, in turn, with the guilds and cooperatives of fishermen of the archipelago to promote and launch new tourist products linked to fishing activities in the coastal territory.

In this way, it seeks to create a space for acceleration of entrepreneurship of marine tourism and fishing-tourism products that promotes the participation of actors in the maritime-fishing and tourism sector in the development of actions in the local environment and in the dissemination of the natural, social and cultural heritage of the marine environment, betting on sustainability and care for the environment.

Among the activities to be developed, the participants have to execute training activities linked to their training program in collaboration with the fishing guilds, cooperatives and entities of their respective territories.

The training is given with a methodology of study based on sustainable development, the promotion of local products, digitization and innovation.
