The Vice President and Minister of Economy, Industry, Commerce and Self-Employed of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez, presented this week an initiative developed by the General Directorate of Promotion and Economic Diversification to promote Financial Education in the Canary Islands in collaboration with public and private entities.

The objective of the plan is to make financial knowledge more accessible and attractive to citizens. The working group that will launch this initiative, which met today, is made up of 51 entities and organizations from the educational, social, financial and business fields.

The Minister, Manuel Domínguez, explained that this initiative stems from the Government's concern about the low level of financial literacy among the people of the Canary Islands, which is well below the national average.

“We understand that it is essential for the population to have key knowledge in this area. Hence this initiative, which covers three segments of action: the educational, the business and the population in general.”

“The idea is to reach collaboration agreements with all participants in the initiative to develop joint activities to make financial knowledge more accessible and attractive to citizens, starting with schools,” Domínguez stressed.

The General Director of Economic Promotion and Diversification, Alexis Oliva, was in charge of presenting this project today to the entities that have joined this initiative who, together with the administration, will develop an action and communication plan that will begin to be implemented in the last quarter of the year.
