The Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL), which includes travel agencies and tour operators, has regretted this Thursday in a statement the decision by the Board of Directors of the Tourist Centers this Wednesday, whereby the public entity will be the only channel for the sale of individual tickets for the Tourist Centers.
The FTL maintains that "the sale of individual tickets for the Tourist Centers is not incompatible with the sale through travel agencies and tour operators". "As with the rest of the tourist services offered to tourists such as transportation, accommodation, leisure activities, visits, etc.", they argue.
The Federation has regretted that "the measure has been taken without dialogue with the sector" and has expressed its "outright opposition to it, understanding that the measure limits its role".
«It is not only bad news for travel agencies and tour operators, but also for the Tourist Centers themselves, since with this measure they exclude themselves from the possibility of being part of the «individual tourist experiences that tourist intermediaries create and sell".
The employers' association considers this measure "contradictory to the strategy promoted by the Cabildo itself through Turismo Lanzarote to target a premium individual tourist", since it is this same tourist who "demands through travel agencies and tour operators the personalized creation of tourist experiences", which include visits, tickets to points of interest, reservations for restaurants, leisure, individual transportation, among others. Therefore, "from now on the sale of individual tickets and vouchers to the Tourist Centers will be excluded from the premium experiences sold by travel agencies and tour operators", they add.
