Vacation rentals skyrocket the tourist places in Lanzarote and the island already reaches 107,571 beds between hotels, extra-hotel accommodations and vacation rentals, according to the General Tourist Registry of the Canary Islands.
In data, the 85 hotels and pensions registered on the island have 35,315 tourist beds. Added to this are the extra-hotel accommodations, which concentrate 34,543 places, among its more than 384 apartments, rural houses and tourist villas. Or what is the same, the conventional accommodation offer occupies 69,858 places on the island of volcanoes. This is reflected in the figures published by Canarias Datos Abiertos to which La Voz has accessed.
While hotel and extra-hotel accommodations continue to grow at a more sustained rate and continue to represent the majority of the island's accommodation offer, vacation rentals already reach 37,713 places among the 8,433 houses that have been registered so far. With data updated this Monday, more than a third of the tourist places (35%) are in the vacation market.
Dispersion of tourism throughout the island
It should be noted that the majority of hotels are concentrated in three key points of Lanzarote: 15 hotel accommodations in Costa Teguise (Teguise), with 25 in Puerto del Carmen (Tías) and 25 in Playa Blanca (Yaiza); while vacation rentals extend from tourist areas to residential areas.
The municipality of Yaiza currently concentrates 2,408 vacation rentals; 1,706 tourist accommodations in Teguise; and 2,243 tourist accommodations in Tías.
Vacation rentals have not only increased the number of tourist places, but have also brought tourism to every corner of Lanzarote and La Graciosa. For example, towns such as Caleta de Sebo on the eighth island, where there is no hotel, have 169 registered vacation rentals, with a population of 718 inhabitants (2022). Another case is the municipality of Haría, which already has 472 vacation rentals, despite having only two rural hotels registered in the municipality.
