The general director of Planning, Training and Tourism Promotion of the Government of the Canary Islands, Miguel Ángel Rodríguez, has assured that there are legal entities in the Canary Islands that own "200, 300, 400 or 500" vacation homes and that they are both Canarian and national or foreign.
Rodríguez has wielded this data in statements to the media when asked how many vacation homes are in the hands of investment funds and added that of the more than 55,000 vacation homes that are registered in the Canary Islands "only 22,000 Canarian people had a single home".
He assured that the draft law "has few outright prohibitions", but one of them is that there are buildings dedicated entirely to vacation homes.
Likewise, he maintained that in the model proposed by the Executive, "Canarians are at the center of the debate" and that "the debate now is not tourism and the tourist, but the quality of life and well-being of Canarians, without compromising the other".
