Turismo y Activa Canarias promote the active leisure sector with discount codes and a marketplace

The Minister of Tourism and Activa Canarias, presented this Tuesday the new phase of the Active Tourism Reactivation Plan in the Canary Islands, a project financed by the Ministry and with which it is being possible to boost the sector, bringing the activities they carry out closer to tourists and Canarian residents through a wide range of free experiences and discount codes of up to 100 euros in many others.

The plan has an allocation from Tourism of the Canary Islands of 250,000 euros, financed with European funds and with the contribution of active tourism companies through the free provision of many activities.

As explained by the Minister of Tourism, Yaiza Castilla, "with the aim of boosting this sector and stimulating consumption in it, a collaboration agreement was signed with the consequent budgetary allocation, which would allow supporting the recovery of the economic activity of companies, after so many months of paralysis due to the pandemic, so that it would have a significant impact on the survival of businesses and employment."

A marketplace and discount codes of up to 100 euros

This program has been developed in two phases. The first was launched last March, promoting a marketplace for the sector under the domain ecoactivacanarias.com, a digital store in which 28 companies are already marketing their services and another 40 are in the process.

"This is a great achievement, as we are talking about Canarian micro-enterprises that on their own find it very difficult to sustain the structure required to access digital commerce and they are achieving it through this shared platform created by Activa Canarias," adds Castilla.

The entity has already carried out a multitude of activities in a first phase, with more than 300 experience reservations, reaching almost 2,000 users, and for every euro invested, companies have received 1.15 euros in billing, according to data from the Business Association of Active Tourism of the Canary Islands. In addition, at a media level, it was estimated that the campaign has been replicated more than 24 million times in the target audience.

Meanwhile, José Luis Echevarría, highlighted that this plan aims to promote online shopping. "It is a priority objective of the Association to promote the digitization of our sector to improve its position and the marketing demanded by the market. For this reason, promotions are made to extend the use of this tool, which we understand is key to reactivating the sector in a post-pandemic era."

For its part, the second phase presented this Tuesday, includes a new package of activities, with discount codes of up to 100 euros and promotional actions in four tourist-generating markets, such as the peninsula, the United Kingdom, Germany and France, as long as users have registered in the Marketplace ecoactivacanarias.com.

With that wallet, the code can be used in any of the active stores on the digital platform, created by Active Tourism companies and which include activities such as kayaking, hiking, canyoning, skydiving, tandem, diving, stargazing, bird watching or ecotourism routes. In total, it is estimated that it will be possible to access some 500 experiences that can be booked until July 31.

The Active Tourism Reactivation Plan in the Canary Islands is boosting Active Tourism in the islands. In this sense, Castilla highlighted that the Canary Islands is positioned as "the autonomous community with the most Active Tourism companies at the state level."

"The Thomas Cook crisis, the Covid pandemic and the recent war in Ukraine are events that, some to a greater extent and others to a lesser extent, affect mobility, tourism or spending at the destination. And, despite everything, the Canary Islands has continued to grow in the Active Tourism sector and already has more than 800 companies registered in the Registry of the Government of the Canary Islands."

The promotion will feature a report in the National Geographic magazine

The Minister, who wanted to highlight the figures that demonstrate the rise of this sector, assured that "this Ministry will continue to bet decisively on the type of tourism it represents and because it is one more attraction of the destination, especially in the new tourist scenario, where more and more experiences and enjoyment of the natural environment are demanded."

In fact, according to data from its organizers, "the most demanded activities so far are those on land", highlighting hiking, as an "undisputed leader", followed by diving and kayaking. Each purchase usually consists of an average of three reservations, with a mostly local audience, but also with the incorporation of new audiences not usually associated with Active Tourism, which generates an opening among the target audience for this type of experiences.

Activa Canarias will begin in the coming weeks with a national and international campaign with various actions, aimed at popularizing the platform and getting demand for activities from potential tourists. The actions will be developed with various actions, including a report in the prestigious Viajes National Geographic magazine.
