Turismo de Canarias will present at the San Sebastián International Film Festival on September 19 the adventure reality show Discovering Canary Islands, an original content from Rakuten TV, which the Canary Islands Tourism Council has promoted within its destination promotion strategy under more innovative formulas.
Presented by Pilar Rubio, this program will explore the most incredible and surprising myths of the Canary Islands and its eight contestants, originating from eight different European countries, will learn more about the local culture and traditions.
A journey of discovery, conceived and co-produced by Rakuten TV, Atlantia Media and Initiative/Mediabrands Content Studio, strategic partners of Turismo de Canarias which, during six episodes, will be full of tests and enigmas that will show the charms of the region to its viewers.
The presentation will take place at the Victoria Eugenia Theater in San Sebastián and will be the first time that this important festival, which celebrates its 70th edition, presents the premiere of an adventure reality show. The gala that will host the premiere is also promoted by the Government of the Canary Islands, through its public company Promotur.
The date also coincides with the first anniversary of the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, “so it will be an excellent opportunity to emphasize the beauty of this island territory”, according to the words of the councilor, Yaiza Castilla.
The head of Tourism has valued the strategy that is being followed through the public company to “develop new advertising formulas to publicize the destination with increasing notoriety and international projection through content marketing, a technique that consists of creating, disseminating and sharing content from the Canary Islands that is of greater interest to the target audience, instead of traditional advertising pieces.”
It will be next October 13, when the first edition of Discovering Canary Islands will be incorporated into the Rakuten Originals collection, which presents Rakuten TV's original, exclusive and free content in a total of 42 European countries, through stories of optimism, empowerment and diversity that reflect the company's DNA.
The television channel that offers it reaches 110 million homes in 42 countries
As it is an original production of Rakuten TV, its dissemination in more than 110 million homes in 42 countries is guaranteed, “which will undoubtedly help position the Canary Islands as a cutting-edge tourist destination”, Castilla points out. In addition, the reality show will be available exclusively in the linear and on-demand programming of the platform, which guarantees its permanence over time in the international arena.
The head of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands has highlighted that Discovering Canary Islands will allow people to know not only the Canarian landscapes, but also its culture and local traditions. “The production will highlight values such as the spirit of adventure, overcoming challenges, vitality, enjoyment, the exaltation of the environments and the care of the environment, which fit perfectly with the discourse of the Islas Canarias brand.”
