Tías, Yaiza and Teguise, among the 50 municipalities in the country where tourism contributes the most to the economy and employment

The association EXCELTUR, which brings together the main companies in the entire tourism value chain in Spain, has presented the first "Municipal Atlas of the social contribution of tourism in Spain", which analyzes the relevance and the social contribution generated by tourism in the 500 Spanish municipalities with the highest number of places of regulated market tourist accommodation.

In the list that includes the Exceltur atlas, three municipalities of Lanzarote are among the top 50.

First, Tías, which occupies the 17th position in the country. The municipality that includes Puerto del Carmen, has a total of 38,694 places of tourist accommodation. Of these, 36.5% are in hotels, 42.7% in apartments, campsites and rural tourism and 20.8% are homes for tourist use.

Exceltur estimates that the relevance of tourism in the economic and social dynamics of Tías, calculated according to the average annual influx of tourists in the municipality over the total population, is 65%, which includes the generation of 5,871 jobs.

Secondly, Yaiza, which occupies the 22nd position in Spain. The southern municipality has 33,638 tourist places, 53.4% in hotels, 15.1% in apartments, campsites and rural tourism and 31.5% in homes for tourist use. Tourism entrepreneurs calculate the economic and social contribution of tourism in Yaiza at 62.2%, which translates into a total of 6,196 jobs in the labor field.

Teguise, for its part, appears at number 50 in the ranking with 24,073 places, of which 37.3% are located in hotels, 35.9% in apartments, campsites and rural tourism and 26.8% in homes. Exceltur attributes 47% of the municipality's economy and the creation of 3,732 jobs to tourism.
