The Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society (SPEL Turismo Lanzarote) has categorically denied the statements made by the socialist party councilor, Benjamín Perdomo, in which he assures that this entity has allocated approximately five million euros to concerts. "This figure is completely false and lacks rigor," he added.
According to reports, the actual expenditure by Turismo Lanzarote on cultural and musical sponsorships in 2024 amounts to 876,428.90 euros, according to official documentation audited by the entity and publicly available.
“We demand a public and immediate rectification from Councilor Benjamín Perdomo, as his statements represent a lack of respect not only towards this entity, but also towards the entire tourism and cultural sector of Lanzarote, as well as towards all the citizens of the island,” said Oswaldo Betancort.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and head of the Tourism area, emphasizes that “the Lanzarote Foreign Promotion Society is made up of all the municipalities of the island, the tourism entrepreneurs, the Chamber of Commerce and the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers. This house owes itself to all of them and operates with transparency and exquisite oversight. It cannot be allowed that the plenary sessions of the Island Corporation are used as a circus, where anything goes to attack the political adversary. Lanzarote deserves a serious and honest debate, not a spectacle of misinformation.”
From SPEL they have indicated their commitment to transparency, the proper use of public resources and the promotion of initiatives that position Lanzarote as a cultural and tourist reference at a national and international level.
