Lanzarote as a model of sustainability

On the central day of these conferences that aim to generate reflection among different social, political and public and private sector actors, a space has been opened to talk about tourism in the face of the challenge of sustainability.

"It is in this area where Lanzarote is already beginning to be seen as an important player in the change of the tourism model," says José Valle, who has participated in the round table to explain the projects that are being developed on the island and that have made the island's Chamber worthy of the Sustainability Award from the national network awarded by the Chamber of Commerce of Spain.

Valle has explained the project of the Tourism Sustainability Cluster of the World Economic Forum. The first cluster in the world aimed at decarbonizing activity in the tourism sector, which is managed from Lanzarote, with him at the head of the project.

José Valle has explained that "it is not easy to modify mass tourism, but it is clear that we must move towards an experience tourism with the client, which adds value to the local product, culture, gastronomy, and takes care of our environment." In this sense, he recognizes that "it is necessary to change the tourism model and truly involve all sectors with relationship potential."

These conferences are intended to create a space for reflection and exchange of ideas between political actors, civil society, young people, the private sector, the media and state and European institutions to jointly address the challenges facing the European Union.
