Visit of the President of the Cabildo to the Emblematic Hotel Casa de los Naranjos

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, visited the newly inaugurated Hotel Emblemático Casa de los Naranjos, in Haría, on Sunday, together with the Minister of Economy of the Government of the Canary Islands, Elena Máñez, and the mayoress of the northern municipality, Chaxiraxi Niz.

“It is an example of elegant, effective, sustainable intervention that respects the environment and the historical, cultural and architectural heritage of Lanzarote,” said the president of the first island Institution during the tour.

The property, which was in a state of semi-ruin, with fallen wooden ceilings, collapsed stone walls and extensive woodwork severely affected by woodworm, has been rehabilitated in a process that has been advised by the Historical Heritage Service of the Cabildo.

The intervention has been carried out through two projects, one of urgent action to consolidate the structure of the building and prevent it from becoming a total ruin, and a second to adapt the building for tourist use, allowing the Hotel Casa de los Naranjos to once again represent Lanzarote's architecture of the time, from the center of the town of Haría.

“It is a model for those of us who believe that the recovery and rational use of heritage are essential elements to diversify the economy, generate wealth and create jobs,” said Corujo. The president explained that these interventions “remind us that it is possible to build our future without turning our backs on the past".

"These buildings are part of our history, our culture, they are the heritage of a way of life that we cannot let die in any way, even less so due to the simple whim and lack of criteria, rigor and knowledge of those who intend to reinvent a city by erasing all traces of its past,” he adds.

It should be noted that, after the restoration, the Hotel Emblemático Casa de los Naranjos has already been cataloged as a Monument within the municipal catalog of historical heritage of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
