The eggplants are the agricultural products that have most increased their price at origin during the last year in the Canary Islands.
In February 2026, each kilo of eggplants had a price of 1.28 euros, when in the same month of the previous year the price was 0.78 (an increase of 64.1%).
This is one of the data points provided by the Agricultural Price Statistics published by the Instituto Canario de Estadística (ISTAC).
Products such as spring onions (55.7%), zucchini (48.1%), onions (38.4%) or tomatoes (34.8%) have also experienced increases.
Cabbages and papayas, those that most lowered their price
On the other hand, cabbages and papayas are the products that have dropped most in price at origin during the last year.
In the case of cabbages, the annual decrease has been of 16.1% (in February 2025 they were paid at 0.56 euros per kilo and this year at 0.47).
The papayas have dropped from the 1.28 euros they cost last year to the 1.09 that are paid now, a decrease of 14.8%.
Also decreased in price products such as the pumpkins (-14,5%) or the oranges (-5,9%).
