The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands has published the requirements for the collection of the supplement to non-contributory benefits, approved by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families of the autonomous Government, which will become effective for those people who have been granted a pension of this type.

Among them is included that they reside in the autonomous community and that they are registered in the payrolls of May and November 2026 as recipients of the same.

The measure contemplates an amount of 400 euros for said complement, which will be divided into two payments of 200 euros each, which will become effective in the coming months of May and November.

They will not be entitled to the collection of the supplement, the persons who are in a situation of suspension, pending recognition process, extinction or deregistration due to transfer to another community.

The procedure for said payment will be initiated ex officio by the General Directorate of Social Services and Immigration, as well as the payment of the economic supplement.

The approval of this measure is part of the commitment of the Ministry of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families to develop actions that help to improve the conditions of the resident population in the Archipelago and to implement social policies that adapt to the needs of the social reality and cover current deficiencies.

Currently there are in the Canary Islands around 42,000 people who receive a non-contributory pension from Social Security, more than 1,100 in Lanzarote, whether for retirement or disability, which range between 569.32 euros and 624.84 euros per month on average, respectively.

These amounts are below 725 euros of monthly income that the Arope Indicator of 2024, which measures poverty risk, establishes as an index to consider a person at risk of poverty, which places this group in a situation of severe poverty or at risk of being so.

From the Government of the Canary Islands, measures are being intensified to face this situation through actions such as the aforementioned supplement, with which it is intended to improve social cohesion and promote full inclusion in society of people residing in the Canary Islands.
