The tourist spot with the highest degree of hotel occupancy in Spain during the past month of March was Teguise, which achieved an occupancy per place of 85.2%.
The hotels in the municipality of Teguise reached 87% during weekends, according to the latest Hotel Occupancy Survey of the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
The vast majority of international travelers who visited Spain in March, 39.1%, opted for the Canary Islands. Next, Andalusia and Catalonia, which were visited by 15.3% and 15.2% of the total, respectively.
However, occupancy fell almost two points in the Canary Islands compared to last year, from 76.7 to 74.8, while in Lanzarote the fall was somewhat smaller, from 75.8 in March 2024 to 74.7 last month.
By tourist areas, Tenerife registered the highest number of overnight stays, with more than 2.1 million. For their part, the tourist spots with the most overnight stays were Madrid, Barcelona and San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
Thus, the Canary Islands presented the highest degree of occupancy per place during March (74.9%).
At the national level, 53% of the places offered were covered, with an annual decrease of 3.8%. The degree of occupancy per place on weekends fell by 2.1% and stood at 59.6%.
Overnight stays in hotel establishments decreased by 8.9% compared to the same month of 2024, and exceeded 22.3 million.
Those of travelers residing in Spain fell by 14.9% and those of non-residents by 5.1%.
