Between January and August of this year, more than 1.5 million passengers have arrived on the island from foreign airports, which is approximately 250,000 more travelers than in the same period of 2019. By nationality, the United Kingdom again contributes the largest share of travelers arriving from foreign airports with 849,568 people, which represents 55% of all arrivals.
However, the country that occupies second place in absolute numbers, Ireland, with 182,476 arrivals from abroad between January and August, is by far the country from which the most travelers leave for Lanzarote in relation to its population. If between January and August, one in every hundred Britons was in Lanzarote (1.26%), in the case of Ireland it was almost four in every hundred Irish people (3.64%).
Next are Germany with 151,370 arrivals from foreign airports, France, from where 115,120 people arrived, the Netherlands with 63,905 passengers and Italy, from where 59,642 travelers arrived by air.
Belgium and Denmark contributed around 25,000 passengers each, while 18,000 people arrived from Polish airports. Next are Luxembourg, with 9,838 arrivals, Austria, from where 8,809 people arrived, and Switzerland, with 7,933 passengers.
From the airports of Norway and Sweden combined, about ten thousand travelers departed for Lanzarote. Portugal and Finland complete the table with about three thousand travelers each.
