A spokesman for the British airport of Luton, which has 8 weekly connections with Lanzarote, has stated that the first flights are expected to depart from 3:00 p.m. this Wednesday.

The airport near London had canceled all its flights and temporarily closed its doors due to the impact of a large fire in the parking lot of its terminal 2, which occurred last night around 10:00 p.m.

The fire started in the airport's newest parking lot, the closest to the departures, and part of a £160 million renovation of the main terminal and surrounding buildings that opened in December 2018.

The fire has been brought under control thanks to the intervention of 15 fire trucks, three specialized aircraft and more than 100 firefighters at the scene.

It is believed that about 1,200 cars were parked in the parking lot at the time of the fire. Authorities believe that the fire was accidental and started in a car with a diesel engine.
