In the first quarter of 2025, 98,021 German tourists arrived in Lanzarote, 22% less than the 125,509 who visited the island the previous winter, according to the latest report on tourism indicators from the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
German tourism has been in free fall in Lanzarote for years. Just ten years ago, in 2015, 66% more people arrived from German airports during the winter. Then there were 163,378 travelers.
Something similar, although with more modest numbers, is happening with tourism arriving from Belgium. Last winter, 14,740 people arrived from the country that hosts the capital of the European Union. That's 23% less than the 19,240 who arrived the previous winter.
The sharp drop in German and Belgian tourism has been slightly offset by the meteoric rise of French tourism to Lanzarote, which has already surpassed peninsular tourism.
This winter, 66,733 French people arrived, 12% more than the previous year, when 59,660 were counted.
The British and Irish markets grew at the same rate, 6% more than the previous year, which translates into 25,000 more British people up to 450,793 citizens arriving from the United Kingdom and 5,000 more Irish people up to a total of 94,867 travelers from Irish airports.
