A total of 2,399,327 people arrived in Lanzarote in 2022 from foreign airports. There were 89,185 fewer than arrived in 2019. The statistic has been disseminated by the Lanzarote Data Center, based on data from the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (ISTAC).
The British market, as every year, accounts for more than half of arrivals from foreign airports, exceeding 55%, and has even grown slightly compared to pre-pandemic data. In 2022, 1,325,655 citizens from the United Kingdom arrived at Lanzarote airport.
It is confirmed what had been observed during the past year, the second foreign market for the island, is no longer Germany, but Ireland. In 2022, 273,536 Irish arrived, while travelers from Germany were 242,832.
In reality, German tourism, although it is true that it has been more moderate in the face of travel due to economic uncertainty in Germany last year, has been decreasing in Lanzarote since the beginning of the century. If in 2000 almost half a million Germans arrived, in 2010 there were already 200,000 fewer. Compared to the figures for 2019, German tourism has fallen by 21%.
More French and Italians, but fewer Belgians
The fourth foreign market was France, which with 171,189 arrivals, experienced a growth of 32% compared to the figures for 2019.
Next are the Netherlands, from where 95,928 travelers arrived, figures very similar to pre-pandemic data. On the other hand, Italy, which is about to surpass Holland in arrivals, experienced a growth of 21% compared to 2019, with a total of 93,856 people arriving in Lanzarote from Italian airports.
The eighth foreign market for Lanzarote is Belgium, from where 42,500 passengers arrived in 2022, which represents a decrease of 30% compared to 2019.
Next is Denmark, with 38,351 arrivals at the Lanzarote airport. In this case, there has been an increase of 22% compared to pre-pandemic figures.
The tenth foreign market for the island is currently Poland with about 25,000 travelers per year, the same as before the pandemic.
