The César Manrique Airport received 722,288 passengers in August, 5.2% more than in 2019, confirming the recovery of tourism compared to pre-pandemic figures.

The Canary Islands airports closed the month of August 2022 with 3,999,908 passengers, which represents an increase of 1.3% in traffic compared to the same month in 2019. Of the total commercial passengers (3,977,444), 1,837,168 correspond to national traffic, 0.7% more, and 2,140,276 to international traffic, 2.1% more than in the same month of 2019.

The airports of the Archipelago with the highest passenger traffic were those of Gran Canaria, Tenerife South, and the César Manrique Airport in Lanzarote with 1,090,494 (+0.8%), 899,497 (-1.5%), and 722,288 (+5.2%) respectively.

They are followed by Fuerteventura Airport, with 556,415 (+5.4%); Tenerife Norte-Ciudad de La Laguna, with 550,505 (-2.7%); La Palma, with 137,846 (+4.3%); El Hierro, with 30,208 (+1.2%); and La Gomera, which with 12,665 passengers experienced the highest percentage growth, with 9.6% more than in August 2019.

Regarding the number of operations, the aerodromes of the Archipelago registered 35,625 movements in August, 0.8% more than in the same month of 2019. Of the total commercial operations (34,180), 21,771 (+0.8%) were national and 12,409 (+2.8%) international. Regarding cargo traffic, 2,419 tons were transported, a figure that represents a recovery of 82.8% compared to the same month of 2019.

 

Accumulated figures in the Canary Islands until August

In the first eight months of the year, the number of passengers registered in the Canary Islands airports amounts to 27,786,117, with a recovery of 92.6% compared to the same period of 2019, prior to the pandemic. Of the total commercial passengers (27,526,800), 11,570,450 correspond to national flights, which represents a recovery of 95.7% compared to the total accumulated in the month of August of the year 2019, and 15,956,350 to international flights, 90.3% recovery compared to the same period of 2019.

The number of movements registered between January and August 2022 was 262,570, with a recovery of 95.8% compared to the same period of the year 2019, and the cargo traffic accounted for so far is 20,745 tons, which represents a recovery of 85.8% of the figures for the year 2019.

 

National figures

In August, a total of 27,301,674 passengers passed through the airports of the Aena network, which represents a recovery of 92.6% compared to the same month of 2019.

The busiest aerodromes have been the Adolfo Suárez Madrid-Barajas Airport, with 4,985,968 passengers; Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, with 4,464,875; Palma de Mallorca, with 4,161,847; Málaga-Costa del Sol, with 2,053,341; and Alicante-Elche Miguel Hernández, with 1,512,008 passengers.
