The Agrotechnological Center of Teguise has opened its doors to the public this Thursday to receive thousands of visitors during the weekend, Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the second edition of the Livestock, Agricultural and Fishing Fair of Lanzarote. An event designed for all audiences thanks to the union of the primary sector of Lanzarote and La Graciosa who, under the direction of FASAT (Federation of Agricultural and Fishing Associations), have gathered a total of 62 exhibitors in the warehouses and exteriors of the Teguise Complex.
The mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort, has expressed "his gratitude and congratulations to all those professionals who have come together to show us that on this island individualism, partisanship and improvisation are not useful to set a single direction." "This fair was born thanks to their efforts and those of so many associations that have demanded support and collaboration from public institutions after enduring a very hard season without rest marked by the pandemic, with a crisis that has left inflation making a full recovery difficult."
"We continue to bet on this meeting forum that makes visible the work of all those who live from the natural environment"
"In a panorama of uncertainty, they have always been there, supporting their own and the rest of the island with local products." Therefore, "it is my responsibility and that of my team to continue betting on this meeting forum that makes visible the work of all those who - directly or indirectly - live from the natural environment," Betancort said during the presentation, in which he thanked the Cabildo of Lanzarote for supporting this new call.
"Last year the surprise was enormous to see how society turned to the first fair that has so much future as political will." So "I hope it is revalidated" since "this weekend our precious products and the authentic essence of our people and culture will be exhibited", "demonstrating their faithful commitment to this island since they created the wonder of La Geria or maintained the population distributing their milk, meat and fish, with the largest fishing fleet in the Canary Islands." "We are the heirs of all those people and we know it." Also that "we can do great things, but not do it alone", added Betancort insisting on "the need to govern from the countryside to the city and give it the prominence it deserves for the future of a priority sector for the future of everyone".
"Enjoy this fair, get to know and defend our people, because it is one of the best things we have." "Welcome to an event that opens as a new door to the future for the primary sector," he concluded.

The day has hosted a well-deserved tribute to several women and men who have dedicated their entire lives to the primary sector, as well as recognition of the new generations. Felisa Álvarez Martín and Noemí Quesada Tejera (livestock farmers of 85 and 25 years), Isidro Morales González and José Adán Betancort Pérez (farmers of 81 and 39 years), Indalecio Páez Quintero and Juan Jorge Romero Romero (fishermen of 59 and 18 years), and María Auxiliadora Martín Felipe, owner of the Soo cheese factory and a leading woman in the municipal agriculture dedicated to the primary sector as a means of family life, have received the applause and warmth of those attending the event, which has included the intervention of the president of FASAT, Omar Viña, who recognizes the work of all people dedicated to the field or fishing as a "heroic act", pointing out the need for "all of us to move this sector forward" and has invited the institutions "to rescue it and value its enormous potential to generate employment and economy".
