The Lanzarote wineries of El Grifo and La Geria have been recognized with different medals in the international competition “The World of Malvasia”, the most important in the world for this type of grape. The event was held in the city of Parenzo, Croatia, on April 5 and 6.
Bodegas El Grifo stood on the podium with three awards, one Gold and two Silvers, with its references Malvasía Lías 2020, Vendimia de Invierno 2022, Malvasía Seco Colección 2022. In turn, La Geria wineries were recognized with a Gold Medal for its Manto Malvasía Volcánica dry wine, which achieved a score of 93 out of 100.
The Association of Winegrowers and Winemakers of Istria (VINISTRA) organizes this event annually, specializing mainly in the "Malvasia" variety. According to its president, Luka Rossi, «all records have been broken, 30% more samples arrived in Porenzo, compared to last year. Of a total of 700 references, 317 were Malvasia from seven different territories: Croatia, Italy, Slovenia, Greece, Spain, Portugal and Serbia». The best of 2023 were recognized by 90 evaluators from 17 countries.
“The World of Malvasia” is the most important competition of this grape variety worldwide, due to its wide collection of references, its commitment to the peculiarities and qualities of the various native varieties of this type of vine, as well as showing the latest trends in its production.
From the Regulatory Council of the D.O. Vinos de Lanzarote wanted to congratulate the El Grifo and La Geria wineries "for highlighting the indisputable quality of Lanzarote wines in a competition of such international importance."
