Lanzarote's gastronomy has received recognition in the mecca of national haute cuisine from Kamezí, a restaurant in Playa Blanca that, in just five years since its opening, has become a benchmark on the island after obtaining a star from the MICHELIN Guide.
The gastronomic project of Kamezí revolves around the island's product and the enhancement of the work of Lanzarote's suppliers. According to Koldo Eguren, owner and head of the project, "it is our way of giving back to the island everything it offers us, which is why we have always been very loyal to our local commitment from the beginning."
The Toledo chef Rubén Cuesta, leader of the Kamezí kitchen team, was responsible for receiving the MICHELIN star on the stage of the prestigious guide's gala. From his culinary heritage from La Mancha and his knowledge of Canarian cuisine, a proposal arises that delves into the origins of the island's recipes, making the best use of the products offered by the island.

Trajectory
The award, obtained at the MICHELIN Guide Spain 2025 gala held in the city of Murcia, gives continuity to the different recognitions obtained by Kamezí, with a Repsol Sun revalidated in 2024, its inclusion in the Michelin Guide since 2022, the Canary Islands Government award for the best restaurant establishment or the report in the magazine Apicius, one of the most important gastronomic publications in the sector. The Tripadvisor portal included Kamezí in its past edition of the Best of Best awards in the list of the 10 best haute cuisine restaurants, among which Martín Berasategui or El Celler de Can Roca stand out.
The restaurant of the Kamezí Boutique Villas tourist complex, also awarded by Tripadvisor as one of the 25 best hotels in Spain, is a space designed by the Eguren Kertudo family, in which architecture and gastronomy pay tribute to the island of Lanzarote, its producers, its landscape and its traditions.
Commitment to the tasting menu
The evolution of Kamezí's gastronomic project has been consolidated, since its launch in December 2019, towards a proposal that combines the defense of the product and Canarian cuisine with a coherent and genuine experience. Since 2021, Kamezí has offered its diners a tasting menu as a unique proposal, being the first restaurant on the island to make this commitment.
The experience begins in the caves of the Kamezí restaurant terrace, a unique architectural space with spectacular views of the sea and the island of Fuerteventura.
Once at the table inside the restaurant, the 12-course tasting menu takes a tour of the island's cuisine and Lanzarote's product, with dishes such as La Santa shrimp, Saharan squid with lemon and chili pilpil, grilled sama or muddy kid.
The importance of the winery
The winery plays a very important role in Kamezí. The Eguren family, winemakers in Rioja Alavesa for generations, has taken special care in this part of the experience. With more than 400 references, the Kamezí winery boasts an extensive wine list from the islands, with a selection of Lanzarote wines that is a benchmark in the Canary Islands, highlighting the efforts of the island's small winegrowers.
Looking to the future
The recently obtained Michelin star "represents a boost to the passion and commitment necessary to consolidate the project and look to the future with hope," according to Koldo Eguren, who also hopes that this will be the first star for a gastronomy like Lanzarote's, which has been rightly claiming its place on the map of haute cuisine, with the know-how of many restaurants and the support of local institutions and entities.
