With an average salary of almost 32,000 euros gross per year, cooks are the best paid professionals among the essential positions in tourism and hospitality, according to the temporary employment company Adecco.

Next are the sales executives in hotels, key professionals for the generation of business and optimization of sales, who earn an average of 28,500 euros gross per year. Together with waiters, both professions are among the most demanded in the sector.

In general, the salary ranges remain similar to the pre-pandemic era, when a slight rebound was beginning to be noticed in certain profiles. Although upward changes are observed in some positions that require more trained professionals with demonstrable experience, such as cooks, head waiters, customer experience managers and sales executives.

At the end of 2021, Hospitality and Tourism was the sector that led the reduction of professionals who were still in ERTE in our country (about 57,000 according to Exceltur data), and during the first half of 2022, hiring has increased continuously, reaching 1.7 million workers in May, thus recovering pre-pandemic figures.

However, according to Adecco, one of the main challenges facing the sector at the moment is the difficulty in finding well-trained workers, especially in the territories where the pandemic has had a longer duration.
