People with secondary education account for 58% of the 62,755 new contracts signed last August in the Canary Islands, according to the Canary Islands Institute of Statistics (Istac).
Of these, 4,090 are people who studied Vocational Training and 32,559 general education.
Next are people with primary education, whether complete or incomplete (18,205); with post-secondary education, that is, higher professional technician, first, second and third cycle, and others (6,238); and without studies (1,663).
The highest rate of permanent employment is among people with primary education (50.6%), ahead of those with secondary education (42.8%) and post-secondary education (39.08%) and people without education (37.5%).
The distribution by sex of the new contracts signed last month in the Canary Islands is as follows: 32,434 men and 30,321 women, with a rate of permanent contracts of 49.49% among them and 39.39% among them.
The proportion of jobs among people with post-secondary education is higher among women (11.81%) than among men (8.18%).
Regarding the distribution by islands, in August 5,416 contracts were signed in Lanzarote, 4,220 in Fuerteventura, 23,218 in Gran Canaria, 27,710 in Tenerife, 372 in La Gomera, 1,630 in La Palma, and 189 in El Hierro.
Unemployment registered in the employment offices of the Canary Islands decreased by 1,148 people in August, which represents a decrease of 0.60 percent compared to July, while the national average increased by 1.40 percent.
With the data from August, the number of unemployed in the Canary Islands archipelago stood at 190,289, and compared to the same month last year there are 43,968 fewer unemployed people, 18.77 percent.
By provinces, unemployment decreased by 686 people in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, 0.46 percent, and by 462 in Las Palmas, 0.75%, and the number of unemployed people in Las Palmas has stood at 99,268, and in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at 91,021.
The decrease occurred in all sectors
Unemployment decreased last month in the Canary Islands in all sectors, especially in the services sector (890), while in the sector without previous employment it decreased by 163, in agriculture by 79, in industry by 12, and in construction by 4.
By provinces, in Las Palmas unemployment decreased in the services (382), without previous employment (82) and agriculture (32) sectors, while it increased in the industry (30) and construction (4) sectors, resulting in a decrease of 462.
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife the decrease occurred in all sectors, and thus in services the decrease was 508 people, in without previous employment 81, in agriculture 47, in industry 42 and in construction 8.
By sex, of the 190,298 people in unemployment, 110.51 are women, of which 58.16 reside in Las Palmas and 52,415 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and 79,748 are men, and of these 41,142 live in Las Palmas and 38,606 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
By age, those under 25 years of age are 9,352 (5,086 in Las Palmas and 4,266 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife), and of the total 4,569 are women (2,465 in Las Palmas and 2,104 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife), while 4,783 are men (2,621 in Las Palmas and 2,162 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
