After a slight decrease in March, unemployment figures have risen again in Lanzarote, reaching 19,903 unemployed in April, the highest figure in the last year.
According to figures from the Canarian Employment Observatory published in the Cabildo Data Center, the island has 3,492 more unemployed than a year ago, which represents an increase of 24.7%. Compared to last March, the increase is 0.9%, since then there were 171 fewer unemployed than now.
Unemployment has increased in all municipalities of the island except in Yaiza, which ended April with 2,205 unemployed, twelve less than the previous month.
For its part, Arrecife ended the month with 10,165 unemployed, 88 more than in March; and Haría did so with 543, 18 more than a month before. In San Bartolomé unemployment has increased by 26 people, ending April with 2,146 unemployed; while Teguise has 1,926 unemployed, twelve more than the previous month.
Finally, Tías closed April with 2,275 unemployed, 29 more than in March; and Tinajo did so with 643, 10 more than the previous month.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, unemployment has also increased, reaching 282,253 people. This represents a growth of 0.67% compared to March, while in the year-on-year comparison, there is an increase of 10.8%, since then there were 27,542 fewer unemployed.
