Unemployment fell by 215 people in Lanzarote during the month of June, although there are still 19,282 unemployed, 1,901 more than a year ago and 6,569 more than in March 2020, when the coronavirus crisis broke out. Thus, although a decrease of 1.1% has been registered compared to May, the year-on-year comparison reflects an increase of 10.9% according to figures from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory published by the Cabildo Data Center.
By municipalities, unemployment has fallen in Arrecife, Haría, San Bartolomé, and Yaiza, while it has increased in Teguise, Tías, and Tinajo. The largest decrease was recorded in the capital, which ended June with 9,851 unemployed, 158 less than the previous month. For its part, Haría closed last month with 524 unemployed, two less than in May; and San Bartolomé did so with 2,049, 33 less. In Yaiza, unemployment has decreased by 71 people, ending June with 2,070 unemployed.
For its part, Teguise ended last month with 1,886 unemployed, eight more than in May, while Tías did so with 2,265 unemployed, 29 more than the previous month. Finally, Tinajo closed June with 637 unemployed, 14 more than it had a month before.
Regarding hiring, 2,505 contracts were signed in June on the island, which represents an increase of 30.5% compared to May, when 1,919 hirings were registered. In comparison with the previous year, there is also an increase, in this case of 85.7%, since then they signed
