Lanzarote ended March with 140 fewer unemployed than the previous month, although there are still 7,019 more unemployed than a year ago.
Specifically, according to figures from the Canarian Employment Observatory published by the Cabildo Data Center, the island closed March with 19,732 unemployed compared to 12,713 in the same month last year, which represents 55% more.
However, in February of this year there were 19,872 unemployed on the island, so a decrease of 0.7% is recorded in the monthly comparison.
Unemployment, by municipalities
By municipalities, unemployment has decreased slightly in all, except in Yaiza, which ended March with 2,217 unemployed, seven more than the previous month.
For its part, Arrecife has 10,077 unemployed, 66 less than in February; and Haría 525, twenty less than a month before. In San Bartolomé unemployment has decreased by 30 people, ending March with 2,120 unemployed; while Teguise has 1,914 unemployed, 19 less than the previous month.
In Tías unemployment has only fallen by three people, having a total of 2,246 unemployed, and Tinajo closed March with 633 unemployed, nine less than in February.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, March closed with 280,650 unemployed, 2,827 less than the previous month, which represents a decrease of 1%. However, in the year-on-year comparison there is an increase of 23.29%, since then there were 227,634 unemployed in the archipelago.
